"The A.L.I.C.E. Files" Had Our First AMA, And We're Gearing Up For Season 2!

We're coming up on a year since I started putting together the trailer and first episode for The A.L.I.C.E. Files, the audio drama series I launched on YouTube in partnership with Alice Liddell which is best described as Alice in Wonderland pushed through the filter of The X-Files. It's been a year of learning a bunch of new audio and video editing tricks, writing scripts, plotting the overarching story, and trying to reach out to find an audience who is willing to dive into the world of these strange stories to see where it is we're going.

We recently finished Season 1, and we're digging into episodes for Season 2, I wanted to let folks know that we put together an Ask Me Anything to wrap up our initial collection of stories. I also wanted to take a moment to talk to folks who made it this far, because we really need your help in keeping this project going right now.

Don't worry, we aren't asking for money. We just need you to click a few buttons on our behalf... shouldn't take more than 30 seconds or so, and it would make a huge difference to us!

So come on in, and let's see if our tales can entice you!

Before we get into the nitty gritty this week, don't forget to sign up for my bi-weekly newsletter to get all my updates right in your inbox. Also, if you've got a bit of spare cash that you'd like to use to help keep the wheels turning, consider becoming a Patreon patron! Answering Some Questions (And Making A Simple Request)

To begin at the beginning, after the Season 1 finale we first put out a video from Director Harrington, asking as many folks to give us their questions and curiosities as possible. And while we did have to prod a couple members of our audience, we did get quite a selection of queries when all was said and done!

And once we had all of those questions (and we collected a few others from social media posts and the comment sections of our other videos) Alice and I sat down in front of the camera and decided to give our viewers what they wanted... as best we could, at any rate!

While we're making good progress (in my opinion, at least), we've got a long way to go before YouTube actually starts sharing revenue with us... and that is where the favor I have to ask comes in.

For folks who don't know, when I proposed this YouTube collaboration between Alice and myself about a year ago, my hope was that we'd be able to get the YouTube channel monetized, and that we could turn it into a legitimate source of income. These things take time, but my hope was that after a season of stories we'd have built up some momentum, and we'd be close to hitting a couple of goals. If it took us a little longer, well, that was okay, because we had plenty of time and ideas to go through.

Well... it turns out that time is something that isn't actually on our side anymore.

First and foremost, to get a channel partially monetized (which gives you access to super fan tips, subscriptions, etc.), YouTube requires you to have 500 subscribers, and 3,000 watched hours in a single 365 day span. To get a channel fully monetized (which is all the previous stuff and you now get a cut of the ad revenue on your videos) YouTube requires you to have 1,000 subscribers, and 4,000 watched hours of content in a single 365 day span.

At time of writing we have 396 subscribers, and somewhere around 2,100 watched hours. So if we keep a steady pace, we should clear that first hurdle by the end of 2026... unfortunately, things are changing in January 2027.

And it is giving us a MASSIVE headache...

I wrote about this over on my sister blog The Literary Mercenary in the post Thanks To YouTube's Recent Announced Changes, The A.L.I.C.E. Files Needs Your Help!, but if you didn't see it, the short version is that YT is doubling the amount of watched hours it takes to get fully monetized. So instead of 4,000 hours (which already takes something going at least a little viral to actually clear), you'll now need 8,000 hours in a single 365 day span... or 22 hours a day, every day, without fail, for an entire goddamn year!

If that sounds like they're just trying to avoid ever paying smaller creators a part of the revenue the site rakes in from advertising... yeah, that's basically what's going on.

And while that is bad enough, there's even more difficulties on our horizon. Because the real Alice is being forced to relocate herself rather rapidly, and moving on practically no notice is expensive. I gave the details on how folks can help in Author and RPG Designer Alice Liddell Is Moving, And Really Needs Our Help To Make It Happen!, however, the short version is that she needs as many income streams as she can possibly get to try to land on her feet.

So if you want to make sure this project gets to at least finish the second season, and that we can keep the lights on and food in the cabinets, please go to The A.L.I.C.E. Files on YouTube, subscribe to the channel, and give Season 1 a watch! Because if we can get at least 104 more subscribers, and just under 1,000 more hours, we'll at least be able to eke out enough to keep telling more stories in the short-term.

Thank you in advance to everyone who can help. We're strained to our seams over here at the moment, but I'm hoping that if we call the banners we can get enough folks to rally behind us that we can storm YouTube's battlements, and actually make them share the bounty that we're earning!

Get Your Questions In For The Next Ask Me Anything For "Army Men"!

It's been about two years since my first RPG Army Men: A Game of Tactical Plastic dropped. And while I've been trying to keep putting out fresh content for it by talking it up here on my blog, making a series of videos called Tactical Plastic Report over on the Azukail Games YouTube channel, and writing as many supplements for it as I have time and space for, I wanted to take a moment to reach out to all my readers and fellow players out there. Because I could keep taking stabs in the dark all day, but I want to know what you want from the game going forward. I want your thoughts, your curiosities, and most of all, to answer your questions...

Which is why I think it's time to put together a second Ask Me Anything for this game!

My ears are open!

But before I get into the meat of today's post, remember, don't forget to sign up for my newsletter to get all my updates right in your inbox. Also, if you've got a bit of spare cash that you'd like to use to help keep the wheels turning, consider becoming a Patreon patron! Wait, SECOND Ask Me Anything?

For folks who are just joining us, I actually put together an AMA when the Kickstarter was still running for Army Men several years ago. The video appeared over on the High Level Games YouTube channel, and it's still there if you want to take a look at it!

Now, I didn't intend on making that original AMA, but during the early days of the Kickstarter we were getting a lot of questions... or, more specifically, we kept getting the same question being asked by dozens of different people. As such, I figured it would be a good idea to take some of the most common questions, lay out the answers, and provide the truth straight from the horse's mouth, as it were.

However, it's been a hot minute since that video came out. As such, I thought it might be time for a sequel! So if there is something you're curious about regarding Army Men that wasn't answered in that original video, what I need you to do is put your question in the comment section of Tactical Plastic Report, Episode 16: Should We Have Another AMA For Army Men?

Now, I'm asking folks to leave their questions on that video for 2 reasons. First and foremost, it's a much easier comment section to monitor, and it will be seen by myself as well as Adrian Kennelly, the fellow behind Azukail Games. Secondly, it would be nice to get some extra upvotes, comments, and views on that video to help it spread its wings a little so that maybe the algorithm will help it reach more people's feeds, and thus I can get even more feedback before I start putting together an AMA!

So if there's something you've been curious about regarding the game itself, any of the supplements currently on the market, anything else that might come out for it in the future, or even about what goes on behind the scenes and what my experience was like with Kickstarter, BackerKit, and so on, leave those curiosities in the comment section for the above video, and if we get enough folks weighing in I'll be able to take some time to answer!

Army Men's Releases (At Time of Writing)

If this is your first time coming across Army Men, and it sounds like something you'd like to check out, consider grabbing the following materials to start digging in!

- Army Men: A Game of Tactical Plastic - The base rulebook which comes with everything you need to run or play the game, as well as an initial adventure to give you a jumping off point!

- Army Men: Threat Assessments - The first supplement released for the game, Threat Assessments is full of additional adversaries for your troopers to come across to really beef up the rogue's gallery.

- Army Men: Medals of Honor - This supplement introduces the Medals System, which is a way for you to reward your players, and to give troopers unique bonuses that carry through based on their past achievements. A good way to note successes, since equipment is requisitioned, and characters don't receive loot.

- Ungentlemanly Warfare: A Baker's Dozen of Booby Traps - A collection of noted in-world booby traps, these deadly hazards can make your troopers a great deal more careful.

- Boots On The Ground: Baker Team - A ready-to-play squad of troopers, Baker Team is ready to roll! Ideal for a pick up game, or for players who want to try out Army Men but aren't ready to make their own characters, this supplement can also be used as NPCs if your troopers need a little help on their current mission.

- A Night At Breckon's Beacon and Assault On Outpost 13: The first two stand-alone missions, the first involves searching for a squad that simply disappeared while out on maneuvers. The second involves an apprehension gone wrong, and a syndicate figurehead being held at a remote outpost. Troopers need to provide support, but will they be able to hold onto their captive when others come to spring him?

An Ask Me Anything For The A.L.I.C.E. Files... Our Next Stretch Goal!

I wanted to start this month off with a bit of good news... the audio drama YouTube channel I launched with Alice Liddell, The A.L.I.C.E. Files, just hit 300 subscribers! And since this has been a goal of ours through most of April (the algorithm has been suppressing our signal hard), I wanted to dangle a bit of a carrot for folks who want to see the new project keep picking up steam.

Because if we can get that subscriber count up to 350, then Alice and I are going to put together an Ask Me Anything for the channel, and the ongoing stories of Alice and the Carroll Institute!

If you've got a curiosity, now is the time to ask!

Before we get into the nitty gritty this week, don't forget to sign up for my bi-weekly newsletter to get all my updates right in your inbox. Also, if you've got a bit of spare cash that you'd like to use to help keep the wheels turning, consider becoming a Patreon patron! You Want To Know, And We Want To Tell You!

At time of writing, we're getting a lot of fresh episodes in the can for the channel, and we're finally starting to set things up for the nebulous Season 2, where we're going to start opening the doors of the Carroll Institute, and figuring out some of the mysteries that lie beyond what we see in the files sent up by the archive. And while we're really excited about that, we also wanted to take a moment and let our listeners know that if you're enjoying what's going on, we're more than happy to give folks a little peek behind-the-scenes regarding what we're doing, explaining different plot points, and tossing out some world building explanations!

So, if you want to see us put together an Ask Me Anything video about The A.L.I.C.E. Files, here's what we need you to do:

- Leave a question in The A.L.I.C.E. Files Behind The Scenes video with the tag AMA in the beginning
- Watch the videos we have on the channel so far to catch up on the plot
- Tell your family and friends to subscribe as well

As soon as we hit 350 subscribers, that's when we're going to go through the questions folks leave for us, put together a list, and sit down to satisfy some of your curiosities!

As a final note, if you go to the comments section and see that someone has already asked your question, that doesn't mean you shouldn't leave your two cents as well! If we see a question being asked more than once, that's going to make it far more likely that it goes on the list when we hit the magic subscriber number.

Until then, thank you to everyone who has helped us get this far, and a thank you in advance to everyone who will help us hit that goal we've set for ourselves!

More Updates For "Sundara: Dawn of a New Age" Are On The Horizon!

As regular readers know, I've been sporadically putting out updates for my setting Sundara: Dawn of a New Age for a few years now. Currently available for Pathfinder Classic and Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, the idea behind this setting was to have a world that's strange and unusual, which feels familiar enough that fantasy fans will be able to get their bearings, but which is different enough that there's always something new to discover!

From removing old standbys like the alignment system (and following the ripples that came with that decision), to replacing the complex multiverse with a single world of magic and one of material, to emphasizing problem solving and innovation, Sundara has a lot to offer! The difficulty has been, of course, getting people to come in and check it out.

Which is why I wanted to let folks know there are some fresh updates to the setting, as well as a few things that are coming over the horizon in the near future!

If you have a need, we have something to fill it!

But before I get into the meat of today's post, remember, don't forget to sign up for my weekly newsletter to get all my updates right in your inbox. Also, if you've got a bit of spare cash that you'd like to use to help keep the wheels turning, consider becoming a Patreon patron! First and Foremost: AMA For An Upcoming Interview!

If you spend any time over on the Azukail Games YouTube channel (which your should subscribe to if you haven't already done so), then you probably know about my series Speaking of Sundara. This is a show where I talk about the setting, my inspirations for it, where some of my ideas and supplements are going, and so on. It operates as a kind of behind-the-scenes glance into Sundara, and I try to answer folks' questions while also giving everyone an elevator pitch about why they should come in and try it out for themselves!

It's been sort of irregular over the past year, mostly because I haven't been producing a lot of new Sundara content. However, there is going to be a new episode filmed soon, and it's going to be my first one with a special guest... author, and fellow Sundara creator, Isaiah Burt!

Seriously, check him out if you haven't yet!

Author of the novellas Legacy of Flames (a story about a unique lizardfolk taking his hunt into the mountains outside Ironfire), as well as Blight Bane's Gambit (a tale of a tricksy green dragon and a band of orc mercenaries), Isaiah has added many of his own brush strokes to the setting I started. And so we thought we'd have a collab about Sundara as a whole, what draws us to it, and what are some things we'd like to see it do in the future!

And if you, dear readers, had any questions you'd like to see answered then make sure you leave them in the comments below so we can address them! This will be the second AMA I've put together for Sundara, and if you haven't seen the first one, then check it out below!

A New Series: Locales of Sundara!

In addition to the Whispers & Rumors supplements I've been working on (currently the only one out is Whispers & Rumors For Ironfire, The City of Steel, but supplements are in editorial for Moüd, City of Bones and Silkgift, City of Sails), there is a new occasional supplement one should keep an eye out for... Locales of Sundara!

The first is Locales of Sundara: The Silkgift Gazette by Adrian Kennelly! Located within Fool Street, this newspaper is a hive of activity for all the news in the city, and its broadsheets are distributed all across the City of Sails... and given that Silkgift is a port city with a massive canal running through it, these newspapers can often end up quite far from the place they were printed!

Whether you're looking to run some games in Silkgift specifically, in Sundara in general, or you just want to have a gazette in your own fantasy world, I'd highly recommend grabbing yourself a copy of this supplement while it's still hot off the presses!

Seriously... don't sleep on this one!

My question for folks out there who think this would make for a snazzy series of supplements... what would you like to see next? And where in the setting would you like to see it? Would you like to see a combat school teaching the trade of steel in Ironfire? A pseudodragon cafe in Hoardreach? Or an enchanted notary in the floating city of Archbliss?

Throw your suggestions in the comments below, but also make sure you leave them on our social media pages so that both myself, and other contributors to this setting, can see them, and run with them!

Lastly, if this is something that perks your interest, I highly recommend checking out Merchants of Sundara, as it has 10 additional businesses/brands one can encounter across this setting... though you can pluck them out and put them in whatever world you wish! It's also the supplement that continued the story begun in the original release for the setting, which is dramatized below for all those who enjoy a bit of storytelling flair to draw them into a game world!

Ask Me Anything About "Sundara: Dawn of a New Age" (Seriously, Please Do!)

As regular readers know, I've been putting out splat books for my Sundara: Dawn of a New Age fantasy RPG setting for more than a year now. Compatible with both Pathfinder Classic and Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, the idea was to make a fantasy setting that gets back to basics, but then goes off in unexpected directions, while also standing certain givens of fantasy RPGs on their head. From eliminating alignment, to making gods multi-faceted and beyond the true understanding of mortals, to making a setting that foregoes nations as we know them in favor of towns, villages, and city states, Sundara feels familiar while still being an utterly new and unique place to play.

The setting is still fresh and growing, though, which is why I figured it was a good time to open the doors, and to start taking questions from the readers out there so I could get an idea of which areas folks wanted to see fleshed out more in-depth going forward!

Seriously, come take a look around!

Before we get into the nitty gritty this week, don't forget to sign up for my weekly newsletter to get all my updates right in your inbox. Also, if you've got a bit of spare cash that you'd like to use to help keep the wheels turning, consider becoming a Patreon patron!

Got Curiosities? Well, Ask Away!

As I mentioned in my most recent Speaking of Sundara video over on the Azukail Games YouTube channel (which you should totally go subscribe to so I can try to make bigger, longer, and more involved videos going forward), I recently hit a kind of end of Phase 1 release for Sundara. From the initial Cities of Sundara books, into Gods of Sundara, and then through Species of Sundara, I laid the ground work for locations, magic and the divine, and talked about how a lot of the available fantastical creatures work. And that all came full circle with Towns of Sundara, which provided a sampling of 10 towns complete with maps, histories, notable locations, named NPCs, and potential plot hooks for Game Masters to use as seeds for side quests.

As I mentioned in the video at the time, I've got some plans for what I want to do with Sundara going forward. I want to focus more on organizations, like I did with Sellswords of Sundara (for both Pathfinder and DND 5E) where I put together 10 different mercenary companies in the setting and used them to build stories and lore while also giving players and GMs some mechanical toys to play with. I'm thinking about cults, merchants, and guilds, just to start off with.

However, I also want to take a moment to bend an ear to those who are actually checking out the setting. That is where you all come in!

For an upcoming Speaking of Sundara video I want to address any questions, curiosities, or suggestions people in my audience have. Whether you're wondering about what kinds of governments exist across the setting, what weird kinds of technology are going to be added in the future, the plans I have for any of the existing cities that have come out, or a question you've been wondering about for a while now, I want you to ask it!

Where? Well, to ensure that I see it try to direct your questions to these spaces:

- In the comment section of this blog post
- Sent directly to me via the contact widget on this blog
- Left in the comment section on social media where I share this blog post

My hope is that over the next week or so I can collect enough genuine inquiries from folks that I can put together a decent video to address your questions, and perhaps to get some idea of what players and Game Masters alike want to see from Sundara as it develops.

So don't be shy! If you've got a question, fire away.

Why Not Take a Closer Look For Yourself?

If this is the first time you've come across my Sundara setting, and you're not sure what it's all about, consider checking out the supplements below! Also, don't forget to stop by the Azukail Games YouTube channel where I've talked about the setting at length, in addition to presenting some short audio dramas (like the one below) set in the world of Sundara!

Cities of Sundara

The setting first began with the Cities of Sundara splats. Self-contained guides to some of the larger and more powerful centers of trade, industry, arms, and magic, these unique locations provide plenty of fodder for character generation and plots. Not only that, but each one comes with unique, mechanical goodies for players and GMs alike to take out for a spin!

- Ironfire: The City of Steel (Pathfinder and DND 5E): Built around the Dragon Forge, Ironfire is where the secret to dragon steel was first cracked. The center of the mercenary trade in the region, as well as boasting some of the finest schools for teaching practical sciences, Ironfire is a place where discovery and danger walk hand in hand!

- Moüd: The City of Bones (Pathfinder and DND 5E): An ancient center of trade and magic, Moüd was lost to a cataclysm, and then buried in myth. Reclaimed by the necromantic arts of the Silver Wraiths guild, this city has once again become a place teeming with life. Despite the burgeoning population, though, it is the continued presence of the undead that helps keep the city running, ensuring that Moüd is not swallowed up once more.

- Silkgift: The City of Sails (Pathfinder and DND 5E): Built on the cottage industry of Archer cloth (an extremely durable material used for sails, windmills, etc.), Silkgift is a place that prizes invention and discovery. From gravity batteries that store the potential of the wind, to unique irrigation systems, to aether weapons, the city positively churns out discoveries... and then there's the canal they cut through the mountains that makes them a major center of trade across the region.

- Hoardreach: The City of Wyrms (Pathfinder and DND 5E): A center of power across an entire region, Hoardreach is ruled over by a Cooperation of five different dragons. A place for refugees and outcasts of all sorts, Hoardreach boasts some of the most unusual citizens and creations from across Sundara. Infamous for their sky ships, which require the cast-off scales and unique arcane sciences of the Dragon Works to take to the air, one never knows just what they'll find in this city built atop a mountain.

- Archbliss: The City of The Sorcerers (Pathfinder and DND 5E): A floating city in the sky, Archbliss has been a refuge for sorcerers for thousands of years. It's only in relatively recent years that the city has allowed those from the ground below who lack the power of a bloodline to join them in the clouds. However, while there are certainly amazing wonders to behold, there is a darkness in Archbliss. Something rotting away at its heart that could, if not healed, bring the city crashing to the ground once more.

Gods of Sundara

- Gods of Sundara (available for Pathfinder and DND 5E): In a world with no alignment, and where the gods are often genuinely mysterious forces that are far too large for mortals to truly comprehend, the divine feels genuinely strange and unknown... something that really does have to be taken on faith. This supplement provides a sample pantheon for Sundara, but also provides instructions on how to easily make your own gods in a world where you can't cast a spell and tell whether someone is good or evil.

Species of Sundara

Sundara is filled with creatures that many of us recognize, but I wanted to give greater depth to their cultures, and a wider variety of options. After all, humans always get 15+ ethnicities, languages, and unique histories, while elves, dwarves, orcs, halflings, etc. are almost always left with footnotes, or maybe with a handful of offshoots. So, in short, I wanted to give all the fantastical creatures the treatment that humans usually get in our games.

And there is no human book yet. If readers demand to know more, then I may sit down to pen one... but I figured that humans didn't need to be front-and-center in this setting just yet.

- Elves of Sundara (Pathfinder and DND 5E): Elves are one of the most quintessential fantasy creatures... but if you want to see more than just high elves, wood elves, and elves of the sun and moon, then this supplement has you covered!

- Dwarves of Sundara (Pathfinder and DND 5E): The children of the primordial giants who were meant to fill in the details of the world they'd made (or so the myths say) there are as many kinds of dwarves as their are kinds of giants... and possibly more, depending on who is keeping count.

- Orcs of Sundara (Pathfinder and DND 5E): Supposedly a creation of the elves, none can say for certain exactly how or why orcs have been made. What most agree on is that these creatures are far more than most may think at first glance.

- Halflings of Sundara (Pathfinder and DND 5E): Little cousins to the dwarves, halflings are tough, clever, and not to be underestimated. From living beneath the hills, to taking up residence in the deep forests, halflings in Sundara come in quite a variety!

- The Blooded (Half-Elves and Half-Orcs) [Pathfinder and DND 5E]: When orcs and elves mix their bloodlines with other creatures, the result is one of the Blooded. This inheritance takes many forms, and it can even wait generations before manifesting when the right combination of individuals come together to have a child.
